Subject: WORKING WEEKEND
After the week of gloominess and rain,
over 2 inches at our market, we were finally able to return
to the fields this weekend. Planting, weeding, picking
and tying of the tomatoes were tops on the priority list. It
simply is amazing how it all continues rain or shine, and
unfortunately for us, it is much nicer working in the
sunshine. Therefore some of it gets away from us.
Nonetheless, we were very successful and got more sweet corn
in the ground, along with so much more work.
Here’s what’s picking at the current
time: Strawberries, asparagus, spinach, radishes,
cucumbers, yellow and green zucchini, summer squash, Savoy
and regular cabbage, iceberg lettuce, romaine, butter
crunch, red and green ruffle lettuce, snow peas, snap peas
and the start of hull peas. All of these wonderful fresh
veggies were available this weekend. I hope you were able to
get some!
Hanging baskets, perennials and annuals
continued to find new homes. It seems we’re planting later
this year, as I’m sure it has to do with all the rain and
cooler temps. But we still have a great selection to choose
from.

This week’s pick…sautéed asparagus and garlic in olive
oil…recipe available in store or online…but I have a great
one for my newsletter fans only…
CRUST: 2 sticks melted butter
Mix above ingredients in pie pan…smooth
out in pan…prick with fork…bake at 350 degrees til golden
brown….allow to cool
Meanwhile, cut, clean and drain
strawberries…add 2 packs of strawberry gel(giant)…mix
well…add to cooled pie shell…whip cream if desired…so quick
and so delicious…enjoy! And of course you know where to get
the strawberries…so remember
EAT FRESH…BUY LOCAL… AND SHOP THE
